When to Call 911

Crime in Progress - Suspicious Activity

  • Person pointing a weapon at someone, or children with weapons.
  • Suspicious physical activity you believe is related to a criminal activity.
  • Violent physical activity you believe is related to a criminal activity.

Life or Safety Problems

  • Smell of gas or electrical short, something burning.
  • Smell of fire or something burning.
  • In need of medical help, ambulance, paramedic, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), due to medical emergency.
  • Vicious, uncontained, animals displaying a behavior that could be dangerous to children, elderly, or the general public.

When to Not Call 911

Do not use the 911 emergency number for the following:

  • For Road condition or Weather information.
  • To report loose, uncontained animals, unless they display dangerous behavior towards people.
  • To request a report or information related to an already completed report.
