Ridgecrest is a General Law City governed by a five-member City Council with an elected Mayor. Term of office for Mayor is every two years. Terms of office for City Council Members are four years and are staggered with two members elected at one election and two the next.
The City of Ridgecrest consolidates with Kern County for all municipal elections. The Ridgecrest City Clerk serves as the election officer and is responsible for all candidates’ filings, the issuance and acceptance of nomination papers, City measures and publications of all legal notices as well as campaign and conflict of interest filings required by the Fair Political Practices Commission.
The regular nomination period for Mayor and Council Member candidates for the next election will begin Monday July 18th and will run through Thursday August 11th. Nomination papers will only be available for pickup and drop-off during these dates so mark your calendar if you are interested.
